The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is a crucial test for students aiming to enter top engineering colleges in India. In 2025, the exam pattern has undergone significant changes that candidates should be aware of to prepare effectively.
JEE Main 2025 Exam Pattern
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has revised the JEE Main 2025 exam pattern, particularly affecting Section B of the papers. Previously, Section B included optional questions, allowing students to choose which ones to answer. However, starting in 2025, all questions in Section B are mandatory. This change applies to all three papers:
- Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech): Focuses on Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Each subject has 25 questions, totaling 75 questions. Section A contains 20 multiple-choice questions (MCQs)
- Paper 2A (B.Arch): Includes Mathematics, Aptitude Test, and Drawing Test. The Mathematics section follows the same pattern as Paper 1, with 20 MCQs and 5 NVT questions, all compulsory. The Aptitude Test consists of 50 MCQs, and the Drawing Test has 2 questions.
- Paper 2B (B.Planning): Comprises Mathematics, Aptitude Test, and Planning-Based Questions. The Mathematics and Aptitude sections are similar to those in Paper 2A. The Planning section includes 25 MCQs.
The New Exam Pattern’s Advantages
According to NTA, pupils will benefit from the new pattern in the following ways.
- Candidates will get two chances to enhance their exam marks if they cannot put in their best effort on the first try.
- Students will gain first-hand experience taking an examination on their first attempt and be aware of their mistakes, which they can correct on their second attempt.
This will lower the likelihood of dropping a year, and droppers will not have to waste a full year.
