In the previous segment, we learnt about Pollination, its types, and pollinating agents. In this segment, we will learn about Fertilisation.
What is Fertilisation?
It is the process in which the male gamete fuses with the female gamete to give rise to an
embryo.
What is an embryo?
It is a single-celled structure formed after the fusion of male and female gametes. It is also known as a zygote.
How does fertilisation occur?
Fertilisation occurs in the female reproductive part, that is, pistil. The pollen grains get deposited on the stigma. They travel towards the ovary through a pollen tube to reach the ovary.
Inside the ovary, the male gamete fuses with the female gamete to form an embryo, which further develops into an organism.
