Rabbits are small to medium-sized mammals in the family Leporidae of the order Lagomorpha, found in several parts of the world. There are eight different genera in the family, including the European rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus), the American cottontail (Sylvilagus floridanus), and the jackrabbit (Lepus californicus).

Rabbits are notable for their large ears and for their ability to run and jump quickly. They are herbivores and typically eat grass, leaves, and other plant material.

Rabbits breed rapidly and can produce large litters of offspring. Female rabbits can become pregnant as early as four months old, and males can impregnate females as soon as they reach sexual maturity. Gestation lasts about 28 days, and the average litter size is six to eight young.

The young are born naked and blind, and they weigh only about half an ounce (14 grams) at birth. The mother provides care for the young, and the young begin to eat solid food at about two weeks old. They are fully grown at about three months old.

Rabbits can live for up to 10 years in the wild, or up to 12 years in captivity.

Rabbits are prey animals and are hunted by many different predators, including foxes, coyotes, hawks, and owls. They can also be affected by diseases, parasites, and harsh weather conditions.
