An IIT professor has visited multiple IITs and met with around a hundred students during the last two decades. The prevailing culture at most IITs is one of the factors that keeps them among the greatest colleges in the country.
Learning does not take place in the classroom, and IITs cannot claim to be learning success stories. In actuality, these institutes generate engineers with enormous amounts of public funds who rarely use the information and expertise earned through IIT training.
At the same time, the primary motivation for attending IIT is no longer valid: obtaining an engineering degree from the world’s greatest university. IITs are burdened with a large number of Kota-trained students with weak social skills and low social awareness who study physics, chemistry, and maths from class 6 to the exclusion of all other skills – and who do not progress significantly over a four-year term of study at IIT.
Most IIT graduates do not evaluate their interests and have no idea what they would study for the next four years. If the work pays off, students are math-savvy (which IIT JEE prefers), tech-savvy, and quiet enough. Students in the past were able to cope with the stresses of IIT life considerably better than many students today. The teacher had it in his mind in eighth grade that those who didn’t get into IIT would end up watching the grass grow.
As soon as the results of the 12th CBSE Council meeting were revealed, I realised there was no other option for an ambitious engineer to avoid the wrath of IIT JEE preparation.
I had to stay in my hometown of Indore due to financial restrictions and a deafening lack of clarity, with the words of my old mentor ringing in my brain as I took my initial steps in one of Indore’s best test coaching courses. IIT-JI. Especially considering many of my classmates were exceptionally bright academically (nearly 80% of the top 15 students in the class went on to study at one of the country’s top 10 engineering/medical universities).
Some of my colleagues even relocated to Kota, Rajasthan, which at the time served as an IIT training facility centred on the famous Bansala classrooms. This might have been enough to reassure me in other cases, but not this time, because this person had received a master’s degree with research work in one of the IITs, had numerous high-quality publications, and had every right to enter the laboratory after graduating from university., at his choice next year for his PhD.
Ranking across the World
In the World University Rankings, our IIT is nowhere near the top 100. Let’s take a look at IIT’s scientific contribution to the top Western universities on the list before we sweep the ranks in a nationalistic mood. Before we can learn, we must dispel the illusion that IIT is the best.
Every year, more than 9,000 people pass the world’s toughest entrance exam to gain admission to the famed Indian Institutes of Technology, but most of them have no idea what they’re in for. The Indian middle class holds the bizarre belief that admission to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) is a ticket to heaven on earth. After IIT, the majority of students take one of three paths: study abroad, work as a software engineer, or pursue an MBA in India.
IIT JEE Examination
The IIT JEE, a highly competitive exam, has resulted in the formation of a huge number of coaching institutes across India that give rigorous and customised IIT JEE preparation at a significant cost.
Some educational institutes have had consistent outcomes for the past 27 years, which is why India today ranks it as the number one institution in India for passing engineering entrance exams. Many educational institutes have earned a reputation for assisting thousands of IIT JEE graduate students in realising their ambitions.
These programmes were created to allow graduates to complete their graduate studies at each IIT rather than having to transfer to another university. IITs subsidise undergraduate student tuition by about 80% and grant scholarships to all graduate students and research researchers, as suggested by the Tucker Committee (1959–1961), to encourage students to pursue higher education.
Criteria inside IIT
Private instrument lessons, as well as any other classes or groups that the student is willing (and eligible) to participate in, are covered by the IIT student fee. Students must complete a written assignment for the 200 Levels of Education Intensive Liberal Studies course (see below), or submit a translation or AP credit for such a course.
That is, students interested in certain fields might take pathways that allow them to expand their knowledge and critically participate in the modern scientific environment that shapes the humanities and social sciences’ intellectual traditions. Lower-level students are confronted with even more perplexing situations, such as visiting a famous branch at NIT or BITS, bypassing IIT, and taking a year off.
What the media fails to mention is that a recent IIT graduate’s average pay is approximately 8-10 lakh per year and that even in the best IITs, at least 15-20 per cent of students are unable to find work on campus. Of sure, among the top 1% of the population, there will be a few really successful individuals.
If someone were to ask me what truly distinguishes IIT Kanpur, I would say the freedom provided to students and the authorities’ faith in us. “Archit has always wanted to study at IIT, and my enthusiasm has driven me to achieve my best all these years.”
FAQs
Why do students prefer to pursue their education at IIT?
IITs have a large and active alumni network around the world, and their education equips students with a critical thinking-led scientific approach to solving problems that face humanity. IIT teachers and alumni have had a significant impact on society in India and beyond the world.
What makes IITians unique?
What distinguishes IITs from other universities is that they direct our attention on how we may apply what we've learned in the classroom to real-world situations. The tasks stimulate 'brainstorming,' and there is a free flow of communication between students and teachers about project feasibility.
Is NIT superior to IIT?
IITs outperform NITs when it comes to the level of education they deliver. Both IITs and NITs are excellent at providing education and creating good engineers, however, the top IIT colleges have an advantage due to their higher academic standards.
