In the previous segment of the chapter ‘Simple Equations’ we learnt what is algebra. In this segment, we will learn about Equations.

What are Expressions?

An Expression is a number, a variable, or a combination of numbers, variables, and operation symbols.

For example,

• ? + 3
• ? − 10
• 19 × 3

An expression can be of one of the following two types:

Numerical expression

This is an expression that consists only of numbers. For example,

  • 15 − 5
  • 16 × 15

Algebraic expression

This is an expression that consists of only variables or variables and numbers together. For example,
