In spoken language, numbers are almost always expressed in words rather than in numerals. The number “one” is expressed as “one,” the number “two” is expressed as “two,” and so on. When a number is expressed in words, the word “and” is used to join the number to the word “thousand.” For example, the number “eleven” is expressed as “eleven thousand and one,” and the number “twenty-six” is expressed as “twenty-six thousand and two.”
