Ship Aurora shelled the winter palace. After the overthrown king and his family were banished to Tobolsk, Kerensky's Provisional Government moved into the Winter Palace in August 1917, seizing Nicholas II and Alexandra Feodorovna's private suite. Soldiers and workers protested in the streets of Petrograd as Kerensky and his staff approached the Winter Palace. The Aurora fired a single blank round on the evening of October 25, 1917. (in the Russian calendar). The Bolsheviks used this as a cue to storm the Winter Palace.
