What is the National Institute of Information Technology?
NIIT Full Form is the National Institute of Information Technology (NIIT), an Indian multinational corporation that offers education and training services. It has headquarters in Gurugram, Haryana, India. NIIT operates in 40 countries and has more than 140 centers across the world.
A Brief History of the National Institute of Information Technology
The National Institute of Information Technology (NIIIT) is a state-owned information technology institute in Bangladesh. It was founded in 1998 as the National Institute of Computer Science and Technology (NICST). In 2004, it was renamed the National Institute of Information and Communication Technology (NIICT); in 2009, it was renamed the National Institute of Information Technology (NIIIT).
NIIIT is the only government-owned Institute in Bangladesh that provides higher education in information technology. It offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in computer science and engineering and diploma programs in information technology.
NIIIT has campuses in Dhaka and Chittagong.
Main Business Lines of National Institute of Information Technology
The National Institute of Information Technology (NIIT) is a nonprofit public benefit corporation organized under the laws of the State of Delaware. NIIT is a membership organization with a Board of Directors that oversees the management of the Institute. NIIT’s primary mission is to promote the use of information technology (IT) in government and to provide leadership and direction for developing and using IT in government. NIIT accomplishes its mission by performing the following three primary functions:
- NIIT operates the Federal Chief Information Officers (CIO) Council. The CIO Council is the principal forum for improving the effectiveness and efficiency of Federal information resources management. The CIO Council provides a means for the Federal Government to share best practices, identify and resolve common issues, and develop policy recommendations on using information technology.
- NIIT provides leadership and direction for developing and using IT in government. NIIT does this by working with Federal agencies to develop and implement IT policies and plans and by providing training and technical assistance to agencies on the use of IT.
- NIIT promotes the use of IT in government by providing information and resources to Federal employees and the public. NIIT’s website, www.niit.gov, provides information on IT policies, plans, and resources and offers a variety of tools and resources to help Federal employees use IT more effectively.
