How to round off numbers to nearest 100?
To round off a number to the nearest 100 means rounding the number to multiples of 100, that is 100, 200, 300 and so on.
In order to round off a number to its nearest 100, we need to do the following:
- Find out – in between which two multiples of 100 the given number lies.
- Find out – to which of the two multiples of 100 the given number is closer to on the number line
- Based on which multiple of 100 the number is closer to, it is rounded off to that number.
For example 223
This number lies in the range of 200 to 300.
Every number from 201 to 249 is closer to 200, and every number from 251 to 299 is closer to 300. This means, 223 is closer to 200 and hence rounded off to 200.
