In the previous segment, we learnt about Habitat and the ecosystem. In this segment, we will learn about Different adaptations in organisms.
What is Adaptation?
The process by which certain plants and animals develop certain habits to survive in their habitat is called adaptation.
What are Different adaptations in fish to survive in the aquatic habitat?
Fish have three major adaptations that help them to survive in water. They are gills, fins, and a streamlined body.
Gills
Gills are part of the respiratory system and they help fish take the dissolved oxygen in from the surrounding water.
Fins
Fins are limb-like structures which help the fish swim and propel their body ahead.
Streamlined body
Fish have a streamlined body, that is, it’s tapering at ends and bulged at the centre. This
shape helps fish cut through the water and move effortlessly.
