In the previous segment, we learned about acids, bases, and salts. In this segment, we will talk about the natural indicators.

    What are Natural indicators?

The naturally occurring substance which is used to check whether the given compound is acidic or basic is called a Natural indicator.

    Turmeric

It is a natural indicator that helps to detect the acidic or basic nature of solutions.

    Turmeric

Alkaline substances or solutions turn the colour of turmeric into red. The more basic the solution is, the brighter the red colour will be.

On the other hand, acids show no colour change when tested with turmeric. That is,

    turmeric’s yellow colour remains unchanged.

    Turmeric as an indicator

This is how turmeric helps differentiate between acids and bases. Acids remain unaffected; whereas, basic solutions turn red.
