    What they mean

Percentile/ Percentile Score A percentile score reflects how a candidate’s performance compares to others who took the same exam. To determine this score, the marks achieved are scaled from 100 to 0 for each exam session.

NOTE: A percentile score is different from a percentage score.

Normalisation It involves comparing the scores of candidates who took the exam in different shifts. The normalization process will be similar to what is used for other national level competitive exams like the CAT.
Highest Raw Score and Percentile Score All the highest raw scores will have a normalised Percentile Score of 100 for their respective session. This means, that the highest raw scores secured by candidates would be normalised to a 100 Percentile Score for their respective session.
Lowest Raw Score and Percentile Score Percentile Score of all the lowest raw scores is different. In this case, the percentile score will depend on the total number of candidates who have taken the examination for their respective sessions.

    • The JEE Main percentile score isn’t just about how many marks you got. It’s a way to compare your performance with others. For example, if you score in the 90th percentile, it means you did better than 90% of the test-takers.
    • It’s like ranking everyone who took the test from top to bottom, and your percentile shows where you stand in that lineup.
    • The topper of each session gets 100 percentile, which means they did better than everyone else in their session.
    • Even if your score falls between the highest and lowest scores, your percentile will still be figured out.
    • These percentiles help in making the merit list for JEE Main, which is like a ranking of all the test-takers.
    • The percentile scores are calculated very precisely, up to seven decimal places, to avoid confusion when there are ties or bunching of scores.
    • And remember, your overall percentile isn’t just an average of your scores in individual subjects. It’s a separate calculation based on how you did compared to everyone else.
