Air is a mixture of gases that surrounds the Earth. The Earth’s atmosphere is a layer of gases that surrounds the Earth and is held in place by the Earth’s gravity. The Earth’s atmosphere is made up of about 78% nitrogen and 21% oxygen. The other 1% is made up of other gases. The components of air are-

oxygen, nitrogen, argon, carbon dioxide, and water vapor.

    Composition of Air

Air is a gas made of molecules of nitrogen and oxygen. These molecules are constantly moving and bumping into each other.

    Main Components of Air

The main components of air are nitrogen (78.08%), oxygen (20.95%), argon (0.93%), carbon dioxide (0.04%), and other gases.

    Nitrogen :

Nitrogen is an element that is typically found in nature in the form of nitrogen gas, N2. Nitrogen gas is a colorless, odorless gas that is non-toxic and non-flammable. Nitrogen gas is the most abundant gas in Earth’s atmosphere, making up about 78% of the atmosphere. Nitrogen gas is also found in the soil and in water.

    Oxygen :

Oxygen is a colorless, odorless gas that makes up about 21% of the air we breathe. It is a very important element because it is necessary for life. Oxygen is used by the body to produce energy in the form of ATP. It is also necessary for the breakdown of food into glucose.

    Carbon Dioxide :

Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas that is emitted from natural and human-made sources. Greenhouse gases form a natural part of the Earth’s atmosphere, and without them, the Earth would be much colder than it is. However, the increased levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere from human activity is causing the Earth to warm at an unprecedented rate.

    Water Vapor :

Water vapor is water in the form of a gas. It is the most common form of water. Water vapor is made when water is heated. The water molecules escape from the liquid and turn into a gas.
