    • What’s Next?

In the previous segment, we were introduced to Integers. In this segment, we will learn how to represent integers on a number line.

    What is a Number line?

A number line can be defined as a straight line with numbers that are placed at equal intervals along its length. It extends infinitely in any direction but is usually represented horizontally.

That is, it is a pictorial representation of numbers.

How are integers represented on a number line?

    • To mark integers on the number line, zero is marked in the centre.
    • Towards the right of zero, all the positive integers, such as 1, 2, 3, 4 and so on are marked and on the left side of zero, the negative integers, such as -1, -2, -3, -4 and so on, are marked.
    • The distance between any two consecutive integers on a number line is always equal.

    -6 -5 -4

    -3 -2 –

    0 1 2 3 4 5 6

Representing integers on a number line

    • Since the positive and negative integers go on forever, arrows are marked at the ends of a number line.
