- Summary
- Did You Know?
- What’s Next?
In the previous segment, we were introduced to Integers. In this segment, we will learn how to represent integers on a number line.
What is a Number line?
A number line can be defined as a straight line with numbers that are placed at equal intervals along its length. It extends infinitely in any direction but is usually represented horizontally.
That is, it is a pictorial representation of numbers.
How are integers represented on a number line?
- To mark integers on the number line, zero is marked in the centre.
- Towards the right of zero, all the positive integers, such as 1, 2, 3, 4 and so on are marked and on the left side of zero, the negative integers, such as -1, -2, -3, -4 and so on, are marked.
- The distance between any two consecutive integers on a number line is always equal.

Representing integers on a number line
- Since the positive and negative integers go on forever, arrows are marked at the ends of a number line.
