Properties of the image formed by Convex lens

The nature, size and position of the image formed by the convex lens depend on the position of the object from the lens.

In the following images, point F represents the focal point and point C represents the centre of curvature. We will learn about these points in detail in higher classes. For the time being,

let’s just see the variation in the image properties with respect to different positions of the object.

    1. When the object is placed behind C: the size of the image is small and its nature is

    real & inverted.

    1. When the object is placed at C: the size of the image is the same as that of the object and its nature is real & inverted.

    1. When the object is placed at F: the size of the image is highly enlarged and its nature is real and inverted.

    1. When the object is placed close to the lens: the size of the image is enlarged and its nature is virtual and erect.
