    The Structure of Potassium Dichromate (K2Cr2O7)

    Potassium dichromate is a salt composed of potassium ions (K+) and dichromate ions (Cr2O7 2-). It has a deep red color and is often used as a pigment. The structure of potassium dichromate is shown in the figure below.

    Each potassium ion is surrounded by six dichromate ions in an octahedral arrangement. The chromium atoms in the dichromate ions are in a +6 oxidation state, and the oxygen atoms are in a -2 oxidation state.
