Double Citizenship is not a feature of the Indian Constitution.The Constitution of India only confers Single Citizenship to its citizens, which is of the Country. Indian citizenship can be obtained in four ways: birth, descent, registration, and naturalisation. The Indian Constitution also prohibits Dual citizenship (Indian citizenship and citizenship of another country simultaneously). However, the Government of India decided to issue Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI), sometimes known as 'dual citizenship,' based on the advice of the High-Level Committee on Indian Diaspora to persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) of a specific category.
These were for those who moved from India and obtained citizenship in a foreign nation other than Pakistan or Bangladesh and are eligible for OCI if their home countries allow dual citizenship in some form or another under their local laws.
