Ques 2. i) Find in the poem the lines that mean the same as “neither a borrower nor a lender be” – Shakespeare.
ii)What is your opinionof the ant’s principles?
Ans. The lineis : “We ants never borrow; we ants never lend” I think that it is not a bad idea. We all need to be hard working and plan for our future. We should not waste our time just for entertainment.
Ques 3. The ant tells the cricket to ‘dance winter away’. Do you think the word ‘dance’ is appropriate here? If so, why?
Ans. Yes, the word ‘dance’ is appropriate here. Because the cricket had spoken of his love for singing. Singing and dancing go together.
Ques 4. i)Which lines in the poem express the poet’s comment? Read them aloud.
ii) Write the comment in your own words.
Ans. (i) Folks call this a fable; I’ll warrant it true. Some crickets have four legs and some have two.
(ii) This is a story which contains a moral. It is true in its sense. The people who canearn more and more spend all their earnings. In their old age they find that they have no money to live on. So the poet wants to say to such people a moral as not to be like cricket, instead be industrious and should plan for future.
If you know a fable in your own language, narrate it to your classmates.
A. Once there was an old woman living alone in the forest. She preparedpulkas. Two cats observed it and they wanted to have them.
One cat said that “You have to go and get it”. The other cat said “ok I will bring” They started to share it.
But the first cat said, “as I have seen it first, I must have a larger share”. The second cat said “No, No, Not at all I am the bravest. So I brought it from her. So I should get the larger share”.
Then a monkey entered and told “Don’t Worry, I will solve your problem. I will distribute it equally to you”. In that distribution it ate the pulka completely and nothing was left. The cats did not get a single piece. So the moral of the story is that we should be united and be logical. We should not quarrel among ourselves.
Write a critical appreciation of the poem.
A. Once the cricket requested the ant to give him shelter as it was raining. It also requested to lend him a small amount of grain. He said that he would pay it back to the ant. If he was not provided he might die.
The ant said that he did not consider the cricket a friend. He said that ants neither ever borrowed nor lent. Moreover ant asked him the reason for not keeping anything for the winter. The cricket replied that in the warm weather, he was very happy. The ant sarcastically said to him to spend the winter in dancing. Then the ant shut the door on the face of the cricket.
The moral of the story is that we should not depend on others for our needs. We should be hard working and plan for our future. Then we can be independent and enjoy our lives. Moreover, friendship is not one sided. It must be based on mutual help and support. Otherwise it cannot be called as friendship.

It is obvious that a teacher in a class of 40 students will not be able to give each student equal attention, and this is why students do not ask teachers to clarify their worries. This occurs both in coaching and in the classroom, and pupils pay little attention to it. They notice that they are not receiving the grades they desire, but they do not investigate why this is so.
The fundamental reason for this is a lack of a thorough understanding of all ideas. If a student pays attention and understands what is being taught, he will be able to quickly connect the dots and chronologically relate all of the concepts and themes. However, this is impossible without self-study, to which students do not devote sufficient time. Instead of spending money on expensive guide books, use NCERT Solutions course material, which is available in pdf format and can be accessed both online and offline.

Chapter 1 – The Ant and the Cricket — A Few Glimpses of Class 8 English Honeydew
Honeydew is a poetry book recommended by CBSE that has a collection of eight poems. The Ant and the Cricket is the first NCERT Class 8 English poetry, written by Aesop, a Greek storyteller, and fabulist. The narrative of cricket and an ant is told in the poem. There was a wise and a stupid cricket, and the cricket spent the entire summer and spring season enjoying the scenery; he sang and danced his way through life.
The ant, on the other hand, toiled day and night to gather food, store it, and construct a shelter. The cricket didn’t seem to mind; he was more interested in the foliage around him because there was plenty of it.
- When winter arrived, all the leaves were buried in snow, he had nothing to eat and nowhere to stay, so he went to the ant who had already prepared herself for the coming season.
- The ant refused to assist the cricket since ants do not believe in giving or borrowing anything from anyone, thus the cricket was thrown out of the house. NCERT Solutions Class 8 English the Ant and The Cricket pdf has a full overview of the poetry that you may read offline for free.

What is the NCERT Class 8 English summary of Ant and the Cricket?
The fable 'The Ant and the Cricket' by Aesop is written in a poetic way. The narrative of a desperate and short-sighted cricket and a miserly yet practical ant is told in this poem. During the warmer months of the year, the cricket would forget about the future and simply enjoy his days. He never stored food for the long winter months. However, the Ant worked tirelessly to ensure that food would be accessible when winter arrived. It's one of Aesop's most well-known stories.
What was the point of cricket?
The cricket had poor vision and was unconcerned about the next hard winter days. He used to be in a happy mood and play around during the warm days instead of preparing for it. He paid the price for his folly later in the winter, when he was forced to starve because he had saved nothing.
