AICTE Full Form – All India Council for Technical Education

AICTE ACT

The Minister of Human Resource Development under the Government of India set up the council in 1988. It was put under the AICTE ACT 1987 after this. AICTE’s primary goal is to design a clear plan for the growth and improvement of technical education in India.The primary focus of the council was to look after qualitative improvements in the education system. Their role also includes the regulation and maintenance of norms and standards in the technical education system.

• July 02, 1993: Appointment of the first full time chairman.
• March 1994: The council was reorganised in March 1994 for a three year term
• 1994-95: Formation of an Executive Committee and All India Board of Studies, and Advisory Boards
• October 01, 1995: The government also set up local branches of the Department of HRD in Kolkata, Chennai, Kanpur, and Mumbai.

Objectives of AICTE

The main aim of AICTE is to ensure proper planning and development of technical education in India. The council also promotes equality in technical programs like engineering, management, and pharmacy through its initiatives.

• High-quality technical education in colleges by setting academic standards.
• It ensures research, development, and innovation in technical fields. This is done through grants and infrastructure support.
• Grant approvals to new colleges and courses in the technical field. It also makes sure that existing institutions follow prescribed guidelines.

Major AICTE Policies

• The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) was made by Parliament to plan and improve technical education in India.

Kaushal Augmentation and Restructuring Mission of AICTE

AICTE launched the Kaushal Augmentation and Restructuring Mission of AICTE for approved colleges. The major objective of the program is to address the lack of efficient and skilled workers. Additionally, it also aims to formulate policies to improve the skill set of the working class. The scheme offers technical help to students and workers with better training and prepares them for the market.

Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana

The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship set up Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana on July 16, 2015. The National Skill Development Corporation implements the scheme. It aims to provide free skill-based training with monetary incentives to young graduates. PMKVY also offers short-term training and special projects to elevate the skill set of students. It trains and certifies millions of students by elevating their skill set to fill the gaps in the workforce.

Saansad Aadarsh Gram Yojana

The Members of Parliament (MPs) set up the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY) on October 11, 2014, to create model villages. The scheme works on basic principles of Mahatma Gandhi’s principles, like self-confidence and national pride. SAGY aims to develop rural areas by improving education, healthcare, and infrastructure.

Each MP adopts a village and works for its development by implementing different government schemes. However, limited funding and implementation issues are some common challenges of this scheme. Thus, it aims to make villages self-reliant, sustainable, and model.

Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements

The Ministry of Education set the Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievement in 2019. AICTE and the Ministry’s Innovation Cell formulated the scheme. The main focus of ARIIA is to rank colleges on the basis of their innovation, faculty, and entrepreneurship. The council evaluates key areas like funding, infrastructure, idea promotion, startup support, and learning methods.

They also consider global standards along with other parameters to ensure transparency. ARIIA also helps institutions understand their strengths and improve their performance in innovation-related activities. Its main aim is to inspire colleges and universities to build strong innovation ecosystems. Presently, ARIIA has six categories, like central, state, private, and non-technical institutions.

AICTE Startup Contest

Shri Pranab Mukherjee launched the AICTE Student Start-up Policy on November 16, 2016. As the name suggests, the policy supports the Start Up India initiative of the Indian government. The main aim of the AICTE startup contest is to guide and encourage students to build start-ups. It also brings new ideas to life in over 10,000 AICTE-approved colleges across the country.

SWAYAM

SWAYAM is a digital learning platform by the Government of India. Its main aim is to provide equal online learning opportunities to students in remote areas.Anyone can use this app to learn from anywhere and at any time. It also offers free access to quality educational content for students from Class 9 to post-graduate level. All the courses on SWAYAM are designed by top educators and subject experts.

The app also has more than 1,000 carefully chosen teachers who develop these courses. Students can learn courses on subjects like science, engineering, management, law, and many more. The content also includes video lectures, reading material, self-assessment quizzes, and discussion forums.All the courses on the app are free, but candidates can enroll for an online proctored exam. Learners who meet the required criteria, as mentioned on the course page, will receive the official certificate.
