About African Buffalo
The African buffalo is a large bovine found only in Africa. It is a member of the genus Syncerus, which contains two other species, the Cape buffalo and the water buffalo. The African buffalo is the second-largest species of wild bovid, after the gaur. It is a very sturdy animal, capable of withstanding long periods of drought. The African buffalo is also a very gregarious creature, forming large herds which can number in the thousands. These herds are usually led by a dominant male, who is known as a bull.
