Introduction to Diprotodon
Diprotodon was a genus of large, herbivorous marsupials that lived in Australia and New Guinea during the Pleistocene epoch. The largest known species, D. optatum, weighed up to two tonnes and was the size of a rhinoceros. Diprotodon was a grazer and browser, and probably lived in herds. The genus became extinct around 40,000 years ago, most likely as a result of changes in the climate or the arrival of human settlers.
