Sauropod Characteristics and Classification
Sauropods were a large and diverse group of dinosaurs that lived from the Late Triassic to the Late Cretaceous periods. They were the largest land animals that ever lived, and some species grew to be more than 100 feet long and weighed more than 100 tons. Sauropods were herbivores and had long necks and tails, small heads, and large, flat teeth that were good for grinding plants. They walked on four legs and their feet were equipped with hooves that were good for walking on soft ground.
