- What’s Next?
In the previous segment, we learnt about Pollination and its types. In this segment, we will learn about Fertilisation and post-fertilisation.
What is Fertilisation?
The process of fusion of male and female gametes to give rise to a Zygote is called fertilisation. The zygote develops into Embryo and the embryo grows into an organism.

What are Gametes?
Gametes are the specialised cells that serve the purpose of reproduction.
What is Zygote?
The zygote is a single-cell structure formed from the fusion of male and female gametes.
What is the Process of fertilisation?
- Pollination is the process by which pollen grains are transferred from anther to stigma.
- After pollination, the male gametes travel through the pollen tube to reach the ovary.
- The ovary contains ovules which are female gametes.
- Inside the ovary, male gamete and ovule fuse together to form a zygote.
