In the previous segment, we learnt about Geothermal energy. In this segment, we will learn about Solar energy.
What is Solar energy?
The energy from the sun that is converted into thermal or electrical energy is known as Solar energy.
What are the uses of solar energy?
Solar energy can be used to produce:
- Thermal energy
Sunlight is converted to heat energy, which is then used for various purposes.
The colour black absorbs heat. The working of solar cookers and solar water heaters is based on this property.
For example, a box with black paper on all sides, covered with a glass sheet can be used to cook food. Mirrors are used in some solar cookers to intensify the sunlight.
