    Bhim Rao Ambedkar was born on the 14th of April 1891 in Mhow in the Central Provinces which is now a part of the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. He was born in a Dalit family and had to bear the problems faced by people belonging to this caste since his childhood.

    Ambedkar’s father and ancestors worked for the army of the British East India Company and were not involved in menial tasks. However, they were still considered untouchables because of their caste. Though he went to school he was not allowed to sit with the students belonging to the upper caste groups. He, along with other children from the Dalit class, was made to sit separately and was treated badly. There was discrimination everywhere around him. This discrimination at school and in the society in general inspired him to work for the rights of the Dalits as he grew up.
