Transduction is a method of passing genes between bacteria using viruses. There’s no direct touch between the bacteria. Other ways bacteria share genes are transformation and conjugation. In transduction, viruses called bacteriophages infect bacteria and, while they’re being made, they can accidentally take some bacterial DNA with them.
Then, when these viruses infect new bacteria, the bacterial genes they carry might end up in the new bacteria’s genes. Scientists often use transduction in genetic engineering to put new DNA into a host cell
