They produce sperm and the male sex hormone testosterone. The epididymis is a long, coiled tube that sits on top of the testes. The sperm produced by the testes mature and are stored in the epididymis. The vas deferens is a long tube that carries sperm from the epididymis to the prostate. The prostate is a gland that surrounds the urethra. The urethra is the tube that carries urine and semen from the body.
The female reproductive system is composed of the ovaries, the fallopian tubes, the uterus, and the vagina. The ovaries are the primary organs of the female reproductive system. They produce eggs and the female sex hormone estrogen. The fallopian tubes are two tubes that carry eggs from the ovaries to the uterus. The uterus is a muscular organ that holds the baby during pregnancy. The vagina is the tube that leads from the uterus to the outside of the body.
Gametogenesis Definition
Gametogenesis is the process of producing gametes, or sex cells, in animals. The process begins with the division of a single parent cell into two daughter cells. One of these daughter cells will become a gamete, while the other will become a somatic cell. Gametes are produced through a process of meiosis, in which the chromosomes are divided in half.
Meaning of Gametogenesis

Types of Gametogenesis
There are two types of gametogenesis: meiotic and mitotic.
In meiotic gametogenesis, the chromosomes in the cells are reduced to half of their original number. This occurs as a result of two divisions called meiosis. Meiosis I separates the paired chromosomes, and meiosis II recombines them into new cells. These new cells are called gametes.
In mitotic gametogenesis, the chromosomes in the cells are not reduced. This occurs as a result of one division called mitosis. Mitosis produces two genetically identical daughter cells. These new cells are called gametes.
