In this series of experiments, students explore the properties of acids and bases. In the first experiment, students perform a litmus test to identify acids and bases. In the second experiment, students measure the pH of various acids and bases. In the third experiment, students investigate the effect of acids and bases on zinc. In the fourth experiment, students investigate the effect of acids and bases on solid sodium carbonate.
Bases
in chemistry
Bases are chemicals that dissolve in water to produce a high concentration of hydroxide ions (OH-). They are also called alkalis. Bases turn red litmus paper blue, and they react with acids to form salts.
