    If we add some drops of phenolphthalein solution in pure water, it becomes colourless.
    In general, pure water has a pH of 7 at 25°C. Phenolphthalein is colourless at pH 7 and only starts to become pink at a pH of approximately 9 and higher.  It is slightly soluble in water and usually it is dissolved in alcohols for use in experiments. Phenolphthalein is a weak acid, which can lose H+ ions in solution. Therefore, if we add some drops of phenolphthalein solution to pure water, it becomes colourless.
