    Acute tendon injuries are typically caused by a sudden, overuse event, such as in sports. These injuries can be quite painful and may result in swelling, bruising, and/or muscle weakness. Acute tendon injuries are typically treated with rest, ice, compression, and elevation (RICE), as well as with medications to reduce inflammation. Surgery may be required for more severe injuries.

    Chronic tendon injuries are typically caused by repetitive overuse of the tendon, such as in certain jobs or sports. These injuries may cause pain and swelling, but may also be painless and only detected through imaging studies. Chronic tendon injuries are typically treated with rest, ice, compression, and elevation (RICE), as well as with physical therapy and/or surgery.
