After the NEET results were announced on June 4, discrepancies in the NTA-conducted NEET 2024 came to light, with many students and parents demanding a re-test. The question “Do I have to appear for NEET Re-exam 2024?” is now trending. On June 13, the Union Government informed the Supreme Court that the scorecards of the 1,563 students who were given compensatory marks would be canceled, and a re-test would be held on June 23. The NEET UG 2024 controversy is being heard by the Supreme Court, with the first hearing held on June 11, 2024.

In response to concerns raised by students and parents about the NEET UG 2024 results, the Supreme Court issued a notice to the NTA, demanding an explanation. Today, the court is hearing three petitions challenging the grace marks scheme and alleged paper leaks related to NEET 2024. The case is being led by Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Ahasanuddin Amanullah, who aim to ensure a fair process for the over 2.5 million students who took the exam on May 5, 2024.

NEET UG 2024 Grace Marks for 1,563 Students Revoked

On June 13, 2024, the Supreme Court reviewed pleas concerning unfair grace marks in exam results. During this hearing, the National Testing Agency (NTA) acknowledged that giving grace marks to 1,563 students was not fair.

As a result, the NTA has removed these grace marks. The Supreme Court stated, “These students will be informed of their real scores, without the extra marks. A re-exam will be held for the 1,563 affected students. Those who choose not to retake the exam will have their results based on their actual scores.”

    Should I Prepare for NEET Re-Exam 2024?

There has been a lot of concern among NEET aspirants due to recent controversies. The NTA Director General, Subodh Kumar, had previously assured students that there would be no NEET Re-Exam in 2024. However, the Union Government is now planning to hold a NEET Re-Exam on June 23, 2024, for 1,563 candidates who received grace marks for unattempted questions due to “loss of time.”

The results for this re-exam will be announced on June 30, and counseling for admission to MBBS, BDS, and other related courses will start on July 6, according to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. He also dismissed all allegations of paper leaks in NEET 2024. Candidates among the 1,563 who choose not to take the re-exam will have their previous scores, excluding the grace marks, considered for the final results.

Why is the NTA NEET 2024 Result Controversial?

The recent NEET 2024 results have stirred up significant concerns among students and parents, leading many to question if the exam will be canceled. Here are the key reasons behind the controversy:

    1. Unusual Perfect Scores: A total of 67 students achieved a perfect score of 720, which is highly unusual and has raised eyebrows.
    2. Inconsistent Scoring: According to the NEET marking scheme on the official NTA website, scores of 718 or 719 are not possible. However, many students received these scores, casting doubt on the results’ fairness.
    3. Early Result Announcement: The NTA released the results ten days earlier than expected, coinciding with the Lok Sabha election results. This unusual timing has added to the suspicions.
    4. Question Paper Leak Rumors: There were allegations of a NEET 2024 question paper leak. Although no solid evidence has been found, the rumors persist.
    5. Suspicious Exam Center: Several top scorers were from the same exam center, raising suspicions of misconduct at that location.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has not yet confirmed whether NEET 2024 will be reconducted. Any updates, including new exam dates, will be posted on the NTA’s official website.

Education Minister Denies NEET UG 2024 Paper Leak Claims

Following the Supreme Court’s decision, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan denied any allegations of a paper leak in the NEET UG 2024 exam. He stated, “There is no corruption. About 24 lakh students take the NEET exam. Today, the Supreme Court is hearing this matter, which affects around 1,500 students.”

He continued, “The government is prepared to respond to the Court. We will present our case. The NTA successfully conducts three major exams—NEET, JEE, and CUET. We will take action against those responsible.

Despite the Supreme Court’s ruling, controversy remains as many students could not submit pleas due to the late distribution of exam papers. Among the 1,563 affected students, those not retaking the NEET UG 2024 will still face issues due to the late paper distribution.

As a result, students continue to protest even after the Supreme Court’s verdict on June 13, 2024. They are calling for a special investigation into the alleged paper leak.
