What is Solubility ?

The solubility of a substance is the maximum amount of that substance that can be dissolved in a given quantity of solvent. The solubility of a substance is usually expressed in terms of mass or moles of solute per liter of solvent.

    Solubility Definition

    Solubility is the ability of a substance to dissolve in a solvent. The term “soluble” is often used to describe a substance that dissolves easily in a solvent, while the term “insoluble” is used to describe a substance that does not dissolve easily.

    Other Types of Solubility

    In addition to the types of solubility described above, there are other types that are less commonly used.

    Suspended solids: These are solids that are not dissolved in a liquid, but are instead suspended in it. This occurs when small particles of a solid are dispersed in a liquid. The suspended solids will not dissolve and will instead settle to the bottom over time.

    Colloidal suspension: This is a type of suspension that contains very small particles that are not easily dissolved. These particles are usually less than 1 micrometer in size. Colloidal suspensions are usually found in natural systems, such as soil and water.
