NTRUHS Full Form: NTRUHS History

In 1986, Andhra Pradesh made a bold move. It created a medical university. The university was first called the “University of Health Sciences.” The idea was led by N. T. Rama Rao. He was the Chief Minister (CM) of Andhra Pradesh at that time. He had a strong vision for healthcare education. On 9 April 1986, he inaugurated the university.

By 1 November 1986, it began full operations. N. T. Rama Rao became its first chancellor. He gave the university its identity. After his passing, people wanted to honor him. The government responded. On 2 February 1998, the name changed. It became “NTR University of Health Sciences.”
Later in 2006, one more change came. The title “Dr.” was added. Now it was “Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences.”

Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy changed the university’s name. He named it “Dr. YSR University of Health Sciences.” This was to honour his father, Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy. The decision upset many people. They believed the university belonged to NTR’s legacy. Their voices grew louder.

Their anger, stronger. For two years, the demand continued. Finally, in July 2024, the government stepped back. The name was restored. Once again, it became “Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences.” NTR’s name returned to its rightful place.
