In the previous segment, we learnt about the Hydrocarbon and its types. In this segment, we will learn about Alkenes and Alkynes.
What are Alkenes?
Alkenes are Unsaturated Hydrocarbons with at least one Double Covalent Bond between the carbon atoms. The alkenes are represented by ?????where n is the number of carbon atoms.
For example, Ethene.
Number of carbon atoms in ethene (n) = 2
Number of Hydrogen atoms in ethene = 2n = 2 x 2 = 4 Thus, the representation of ethene is ????
What are Alkynes?
Alkynes are Unsaturated Hydrocarbons with at least one Triple Covalent Bond between the carbon atoms. The alkynes are represented by ?????−? where n is the number of carbon atoms.
For example, Ethyne.
Number of carbon atoms in ethyne (n) = 2
Number of Hydrogen atoms in ethyne = 2n – 2 = (2 x 2) – 2 = 2 Thus, the representation of ethyne is ????.
