In the first segment of the chapter Carbon and its compounds, we will get introduced to carbon compounds and carbon chemistry.
What are Carbon compounds?
Any compound that is made up of the element carbon, is a carbon compound. For example, a sugar grain, a diamond, graphite.
The various forms of Carbon
Even though carbon is present in the earth’s crust and the atmosphere is less than 1%, carbon
compounds are quite commonly found everywhere.
How are Carbon compounds formed?
The atomic number of carbon is six and its electronic configuration is 2, 4. To form a compound, carbon needs four electrons to complete its octet.
