How to Assign names to the hydrocarbons?
The process by which the hydrocarbons are named is called the nomenclature of hydrocarbons. The name of hydrocarbons has two parts: prefix and suffix.
- Prefix
The prefix is the number of carbon atoms. Each number has a specific term that is used for nomenclature as mentioned in the table below:
