In our previous segment, we learned about Supplementary angles and Vertically opposite angles. We will now learn about Angle measurement units and how to measure angles.
Units of angle measurement
Angles can be measured in degrees and radians.
The degree is denoted by the symbol ‘ ° ’. It is also called the degree sign.
How are angles measured?
Angles are measured using a protractor.
Protractor
A protractor is a geometrical tool having a semi-circular shape. It has two sets of markings for measuring angles in degrees:
- An inner semi-circle that goes from 0∘ to 180∘in an anticlockwise direction
- An outer semi-circle goes from 0∘ to 180∘ in a clockwise direction.
Measuring angles using a protractor
1. Place the protractor on the angle to be measured in such a manner that the initial arm of the angle coincides with the 0∘] marking (of the inner semicircle) and the vertex coincides with the centre point of the protractor.
