What is a Variable?
A variable is a letter, number, or symbol that stands for a value that can change. For example, in the equation y = 2x + 1, y is a variable because its value can change. In this equation, when x is 3, y equals 7.
1. Dependent Variables:
The dependent variables in this study were the anxiety ratings of the participants in both the control and experimental conditions.
2. Independent Variables:
The independent variable in this study was the type of music played in the experimental condition.
3. Experimental Procedure:
Participants in the study were randomly assigned to either the control or experimental condition. In the control condition, participants listened to calm music, while in the experimental condition, participants listened to loud music. Participants then completed a questionnaire that measured their anxiety levels.
4. Results:
The results of the study showed that the anxiety ratings of the participants in the experimental condition were significantly higher than the anxiety ratings of the participants in the control condition.
2. Independent Variable:
The independent variable is the variable that is manipulated by the experimenter. In an experiment, the independent variable is the variable that is changed in order to see the effect it has on the dependent variable.
Qualitative Variables:
1. The first qualitative variable is the type of material used to make the product.
2. The second qualitative variable is the color of the product.
