Standard Form Math Definition
Standard form math is a way of representing numbers in a simplified way. In standard form, all numbers are represented in terms of their powers of 10. So, for example, the number 9,876 would be written as 9.8760. This makes it easy to do calculations with numbers, because you can just use the powers of 10 to add, subtract, multiply, and divide them.
The Standard Form of a Rational Number
A rational number is a number that can be expressed as a fraction, where the numerator and denominator are both integers. The standard form of a rational number is the simplest form of the fraction, with the smallest possible numerator and denominator. For example, the standard form of the fraction ¾ is 3/4.
Representation of Decimal Numbers
When a decimal number is written, a dot is placed after the first digit and each of the remaining digits are written to the right of the dot, with the exception of the final digit which is written to the left of the dot. For example, the number 12.345 would be written as 1.2.3.4.5.
