What is Cross Section?

Types of Cross Sections

Circular cross sections are often used when the object needs to be strong in the radial direction. They are also used when the object needs to be able to withstand high pressure. Circular cross sections are typically weaker in the vertical and horizontal directions than rectangular cross sections.

Triangular cross sections are often used when the object needs to be strong in the axial direction. They are also used when the object needs to be lightweight. Triangular cross sections are typically weaker in the radial and horizontal directions than circular cross sections.

Cross Sections of a Cylinder
