TORONTO – Ontario’s governing Liberals say they’re committed to creating a made-in-Ontario pension plan, but they’re not sure how it will work.
Finance Minister Charles Sousa says the plan will be designed to supplement the Canada Pension Plan, which he says is not sustainable in the long term.
Sousa says the government is still working on the details of the plan, but it will be voluntary and designed to help people who don’t have a workplace pension.
He says the government is also looking at ways to help businesses that offer their employees pension plans.
The Liberals say they plan to introduce legislation to create the Ontario pension plan in the fall.
