Pat Cummins began his early cricket journey with the Glenbrook Cricket Club. Then, in 2010, he started playing professional cricket for Penrith. During the 2010-11 season, he had his best domestic cricket performance and became the top wicket-taker in the T20 Big Bash League 2010. In March 2011, he had his first appearance in a professional cricket match against Tasmania, where he took his first four-wicket haul.

On February 29, 2020, Cummins achieved a milestone by taking his 100th ODI wicket in the first match against South Africa. After cricket resumed in June 2020 following the COVID-19 break, Cummins only played nine ODI matches.
