Kindly use your own experiences and bits of other stories. It’s ok to borrow ideas as long as you change them a bit: Stories are not just sequences of events—they have to go somewhere. Any good story begins with a character who wants something in your story. The story tells the character’s journey toward getting what he or she wants. and what he or she does not want. (Stories don’t have to have happy endings or only satisfying ones.)

Story writing is a work of imagination and deep thought of the writer that is usually written in “easily understandable grammatical structure” with a “natural flow of speech.” Story writing is actually meant to be read at a single sitting, and therefore it should be as direct and brief as possible.

In this article, we will discuss the Story Writing Format and the steps for how to write English Story.

Here are some simple, amazing, and practical tips on how to write a good English story:

    1. Make a plan:

First of all, stay within the word limit. If the instructions say to write the story in 120 to 180 words, then follow the instructions. If your story falls above or below the word count mentioned before, add or trim as needed. Secondly, pay careful attention to the question. What do you want or what should you write about? That’s up to you. You may like to write a true story, something that happened with you, or may happen with someone whom you know; you might like to write a fantasy, like a ghost story; you might like to write about something exciting, like a rescue. That’s the fun of story writing: Think properly about what you will write and what will be the gist of the story, especially the first and last paragraphs should be very effective.

    2. Organization:

Plan your story carefully. A nice story doesn’t just take off and go anywhere in any direction. When you are writing a story, whether it is short or long, good organization is essential. Just keep in your mind your story should always have four or five paragraphs, depending on the subject matter, but each paragraph should have its particular topic and advance the story in a specific way. The organization should be like this: A story’s starting should be very interesting, so that reader or listener will get stuck with it, and the end should always be with conclusion or lesson.

    3. Introduction:

The introduction informs the reader of the three (W) who, when, where. Who is the main character, and other characters are in the story? When does the story begin? And where does the story begin? Sometimes there is a hint of what and why as well. What are they doing there when the story begins, and why are they doing it? Try to mention something interesting that will hook the reader into wanting to continue reading.

    4. Main Part:

This is the part where the action happens. In the second and third paragraphs, there is mostly a buildup to the main event in the fourth and last paragraphs in the main part. Remember, in each paragraph, and you must have to add one specific thing that should happen that advances the story along.

    5. Conclusion:

In the conclusion, there is usually a summing up, or lesson learned, or the writer’s feelings or impression of the events, if the story is told in the first person.

    6. Keep it neat:

Words should be very neat and clean and should have a very clear meaning for each and every word used in the story.

    7. Don’t lose your marks for careless grammar and punctuation:

In an English story, Grammar and punctuation (G&P) are necessary elements of any piece of writing—if you want to communicate, you’ve got to make your meaning clear. And clarity goes beyond word choice. You’re the writer or the editor. Grammar and punctuation are two of the keys to your trade. You should know how to use this grammar and punctuation and what they’re capable of, and you should look for new ways to put them to work.

You should know what the use of each punctuation mark would mean for a sentence or phrase.

You should know very well both correct and incorrect grammar will achieve and what happens when you don’t use expected grammar or a typical punctuation mark.

It is good to surprise your readers with an unusual plot thread or uncommon construction; you don’t want to be surprised by grammar or punctuation mistakes. Knowledge of grammar and punctuation will cut down on unintended errors.

Your words and story have to be arranged to convey what you want to say, what you want the reader to take in. You can’t put your words in front of readers and expect them to arrange them into meaningful bits of information.

    8. Stick to the title:

Keep the story interesting with similes, senses, and descriptions. Don’t make the story very lengthy. Do not try to make the story boring.

A story should always flow with each paragraph leading to the next.
