In this series, we are going to learn about the different phenomena and properties associated with light.

    Introduction

We are able to see the things around us because of light. During the daytime, we see things because of the light from the Sun and during the night we are able to see them because of the moonlight, street lights, etc.

Objects can be classified into luminous and non-luminous based on their ability to generate light.

    What are Luminous Objects?

The objects which can generate their own light are called luminous objects.

    Example:

The Sun, stars, light bulbs, etc. are luminous objects

    What are Non-Luminous Objects?

The objects which cannot generate their own light are called non-luminous objects.

    Example:

The Earth, Moon, etc. are non-luminous objects.

How are we able to see Non-Luminous Objects?

We are able to see the non-luminous objects because of the reflection of light. They simply reflect the light emitted by the luminous objects. This reflected light when it reaches our eyes enables us to see non-luminous objects.
