In the previous segment of the chapter ‘Natural Resources,’ we learned how soil becomes infertile. In this segment let us get ourselves introduced to the biogeochemical cycle.

What is the Biogeochemical cycle?

A biogeochemical cycle is any of the natural pathways by which essential elements of living matter are circulated. The term biogeochemical is a contraction that refers to the consideration of the biological, geological, and chemical aspects of each cycle.

There are three components of the biogeochemical cycle:

1. Biotic components: The living components form the biotic components.
2. Abiotic components: The non-living components form the abiotic components.
3. Chemical components: The decaying of the organic matter forms the chemical components.
