Amines are derived from ammonia. They are produced by replacing the hydrogen atoms with an alkyl or aryl group. Either all or some number of hydrogen can be replaced. As the number of hydrogen atoms is replaced, amines can be classified into three: Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary amines.

Primary amines are formed when anyone hydrogen of ammonia is replaced by an alkyl or aryl group. Secondary amines are formed when any two hydrogen atoms of ammonia or one hydrogen atom of primary amine are replaced by an alkyl or aryl group. When all the three hydrogen atoms of NH3 are replaced either by an alkyl or aryl group it is called a tertiary amine. This was brief summary of the chapter based on the term–II exams.
