1757-1849

1765-1836

They believed that if the domestic artisans continued to create these amazing things, no one would buy British imports. To get around this, they began chopping the thumbs of Indian artisans and making their goods tax-free in order to make big profits.

The Renaissance Man, Raja Ram Mohan Roy (1772-1833)

One social reformer emerged while the entire country was engulfed in the darkness of bad practices and prejudices. Raja Ram Mohan Roy is introduced in Chapter 3 of the NCERT English for Class 8 textbook.
