Kezia was a young girl who was scared of her father. She saw him as a big, scary man with large hands and a big mouth. He worked in an office and left for work every morning after giving her a quick kiss. She felt relieved when he left for work.

When he returned home in the evening, he would speak loudly, which frightened Kezia. Her mother would ask her to help her father by taking off his shoes. Every time she entered his room, he would look at her sternly, making her think he was mean.

One day, Kezia decided to make a pin-cushion as a gift for her father’s birthday. She found some paper in his room and used it to fill the pin-cushion without realizing it was an important speech he had written. When her father found out, he got very angry and punished her with a stick.

Kezia was sad and confused, wondering why fathers were made to be so scary. One day, she saw her neighbor, Mr. Macdonald, playing happily with his children, making her realize that not all fathers were like hers.

Soon after, Kezia’s mother got sick, and her grandmother took her to the hospital. Kezia had to stay home alone with a nurse and had a scary dream one night. She woke up screaming, and her father came to comfort her. He carried her to his bed and fell asleep beside her.

In that moment, Kezia realized that her father worked hard every day and was too tired to play with her. She understood that he wasn’t a bad person but had a big and loving heart.
