Causes of Dengue
Dengue is caused by a virus that is spread by mosquitoes. Mosquitoes become infected when they bite someone who is infected with the virus. The virus can then be spread to other people through the bite of an infected mosquito.
Treatment for Dengue Fever
There is currently no specific treatment for dengue fever other than rest, fluids, and pain relief.Paracetamol (acetaminophen) is recommended for pain and fever. Aspirin and ibuprofen should be avoided as they can increase the risk of bleeding.
Some people with dengue fever develop a more serious form of the disease, called dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF). DHF is a life-threatening condition that requires urgent medical attention. Treatment for DHF includes fluids and electrolytes to correct dehydration, blood transfusions for those who have lost a lot of blood, and medicines to control blood pressure and stop the spread of infection.
