The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has extended the deadline for conducting practical exams for both Class 10 and Class 12. Schools now have until March 31 to upload marks for practical exams, project works, and internal assessments for the academic session of 2023-24.
The decision to extend the timeline came after receiving numerous requests from schools. In a notice dated March 7, CBSE mentioned that despite repeated reminders, some schools had not completed the required activities within the stipulated time frame. To accommodate these schools, CBSE has granted them one last opportunity to conduct practical exams, projects, internal assessment, and upload marks by March 31, 2024.
This is what the notice read: “It has come to notice that some schools have not yet completed the activities (practical exams, projects, internal assessment, internal grade 2024) within the stipulated time frame, despite repeated reminders for the same, and are now requesting the Board to provide the facility for uploading marks for practical exams, projects, internal assessment, internal grade 2024.”
The notice also stated, “Keeping in view the requests received from the school it has been decided that these schools will be given one last opportunity for the conduct of practical exams, projects, internal assessment, internal grade 2024, and uploading of marks thereof on the portal, latest by March 31, 2024.”
In addition, CBSE has released the subject list along with mark distribution to facilitate the smooth conduct of practical exams for both Class 10 and 12. The maximum score allotted to a subject is 100, comprising theory, practical, project, and internal assessment marks.
In 2024, CBSE has announced a significant change: students appearing for Class 10 and Class 12 exams will not receive overall division, distinction, or aggregate marks. The board will neither calculate nor declare the percentage of marks for these exams.

CBSE Class 10 Marking Scheme 2024
The CBSE marking scheme for Class 10 board exams 2024, including both theory and practical components, has been released. Each subject is allotted a maximum of 100 marks, which are distributed among theory, practical, project, and internal assessment components. The marks are divided into two main components: theory, which carries 80 marks, and practical/project work/internal assessment, which carries the remaining 20 marks. The marking scheme covers 83 subjects.
For practical exams in subjects like Music, Painting, Computer, Retail, Information Technology, Security, Introduction to Financial Markets, Healthcare, Multimedia, etc., the marks are set at 50. Internal assessment marks for subjects such as English, Hindi, Math, Science, and Social Science are 20.
